  • A while ago Louise and Fred in Paris asked me about how to get their garden ready for winter. And as we in New Zealand are now headed into winter, I thought this might be helpful for my New Zealand gardening friends...

Garden beds are great for winter months.

To build the bed you need 6 three-metre long boards, 6 one-metre long boards and 6 square posts. First hammer the pegs into the ground where you want your garden. Then hammer the boards onto the outside of the posts. Fill with soil and compost and water the soil well.

I think great vegetables to plant for winter are:

    • leeks
    • cauliflower
    • beetroot
    • carrots
    • broccoli
    • cabbage
    • silverbeet

I use wees from my worm farm diluted as liquid fertiliser.

Place peastraw around the plants to stop weeds coming up.

What are you planting for winter this year?
