To optimise health and longevity you must consider exercise, diet, relaxation, social activities, personal connections, mental stimulation and spirituality. Having the best fuel for your body is essential if you want to remain healthy into old age. This means including lots of fresh fruit and vegetables into your diet daily along with a good source of protein and healthy oils and limiting carbohydrates.

Common Dietary Deficiencies
Often I find clients are low in zinc. Zinc is very important for a healthy immune function and also for skin and wound healing.
Iron - Common deficiency particularly in children and young woman Iron levels may be affected by numerous factors, including dietary insufficiency (particularly amongst vegetarians) pregnancy, lactation and heavy menstrual loss, malabsorption states and decreased stomach acidity.
Selenium is low in Marlborough and has been linked to many negative health effects including:-
increased oxidative stress.
increased infection risk.
impaired thyroid hormone production.
sub-optimal reproduction function in males.
Magnesium - I use an exclusive form of magnesium which is highly absorbable and tolerated in the gut. I use magnesium for a wide range of conditions including stress, cardiovascular health, energy production, muscular cramping and soreness and fibromyalgia.
Natural Dietary Supplements
Unfortunately the fruit and vegetables we consume today are often sprayed and have been sitting on the shelf for a long time so have lost a lot of their nutrients. So I also recommend a multi-vitamin for men, woman and children one a day of a high quality practitioner range to keep your levels to an optimum level. This along with a high quality fish oil, and a good nutritional programme will keep you healthy all year.
However sometimes we have not looked after our bodies well enough or in times of stress we may require extra nutrients. New Zealanders are often low in vitamin D and this I always check for as vitamin D helps maintain a good immune function and also helps calcium absorption. This is very important in the elderly to significantly reduce the risk of hip fracture.
Real Life Examples
I had a 64 year old client with hypertension and headaches and along with nutrition and magnesium we now have his blood pressure back to normal and he is delighted as his doctor is no longer threatening to put him on medication.
Other real-life examples include:
A client who is 38 with regular cramping after exercise. After taking the magnesium he no longer gets cramp.
